On the afternoon of August 13, Minister Zhong Shan spoke at the invitation with the outgoing WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo on the phone in Beijing, exchanging views on upholding the multilateral trading system and strengthening cooperation between China and the WTO, among other issues.
Zhong Shan said that since becoming the head of the WTO in September 2013 Director-General Azevedo has pushed for members’ agreement on the TFA and concluded the ITA-2 negotiations. China recognizes and appreciates his contribution to the multilateral trading system and global trade liberalization and facilitation.
Azevedo thanked China for firmly supporting and safeguarding the multilateral trading system with the WTO at the core, participating in WTO negotiations actively and fully supporting the work of the WTO Secretariat under his leadership.
Zhong Shan said the compelling trend of economic globalization and multilateralism is unstoppable. China will as always uphold economic globalization and the multilateral trading system, take a clear stand against unilateralism and protectionism and push for an open world economy.
